Our Next Meeting

Hi everyone,

Thanks to those that braved the weather and the heavy metal band that were playing next door (unexpectedly) to attend our first meeting. It was great to be able to chat and share each other's experiences with ASD and I'm sure we all have lots more to share with each other. I hope that the information that we resourced and prepared for you helped you a little.

We are now looking forward to our next meeting

Time
Monday, May 2 · 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Location
The Burpengary Community Complex, 111 Station Road, Burpengary, Qld 4505

More details can be found here

We have sourced out some new information, there's so much out there. And ofcourse sometimes it's just nice to be able to share experiences with other people who have or are experiencing the same things. We all have different things that we have tried with our children, some have failed and some have succeeded, it's great to get ideas from other parents/carers.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday......................................

............................. and we promise no heavy metal music this time ;-)

We have been very busy over the past 2 weeks trying to organise everything and have managed to gather lots of information to share with our parents, carers and teachers (yes we have also had interest from a couple of teachers who are interested in discovering more about ASD's). We've had a very positive response from our local community and look forward to meeting lots of new people.

The Autism Experience

The Autism Experience
The Autism Experience is a guide to bringing up children with Autism Spectrum Disorder written by parents who have themselves navigated the medical maze, braved the behavioural problems and survived the emotional rollercoaster associated with caring for someone with autism.

This is a great new book that is now available to buy in Australia.
The Author, Valerie Foley has a son with ASD.  She also devotes much of her time to helping the parents of other autistic children and is particularly involved with the Someone To Turn To project, which provides emotional and practical support for such parents by putting them in touch with volunteers who have had similar experiences.

This book is filled with useful information and personal experience, recounted with wit and raw honesty,The Autism Experience is both an invaluable practical guide and a source of comfort for parents learning to live with autism.

We would highly recommend this book, it's definitely one that we will be buying :)
