What is ASD?
Autism Support and Discussions is a support group ran by parents for parents.
Who Are We?
We are 2 local Mums with children on the Spectrum, who were looking for more information and support from people in the know……. other parents of children on the Autistic Spectrum.
Donna and her family moved to Australia from New Zealand 3 years ago, she has 5 beautiful children, K, J, C, E and H. K has been diagnosed with ADHD and secondary depression. C has been diagnosed with mild Autism. H has been diagnosed with ADHD and we are still nvestigating the possibility that he also has Autism.
Jo and her family moved to Australia early 2010 from the UK, she has a beautiful little boy J. J has been diagnosed with High Functioning Autism.
We met whilst attending our local Playconnect group. Attending Playconnect has been a great way of meeting other parents who also have young children on the spectrum. However we quickly realized that once our children reached the age of 6 the support we currently receive will cease and so decided to set up our own support group for parents with children at all ends of the spectrum. We would love to further our knowledge of ASD, share our experiences and what we have also learnt from others.
Who can come?
We would like to encourage all parents with children who have either been diagnosed with a spectrum disorder or who are suspected of having an Autistic Spectrum Disorder. The Spectrum Umbrella covers a wide range of disorders including Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, Sensory Processing Disorder, PDD-NOS,Rett Syndrome and Childhood Disintegrative Disorder. We will also try to include disorders often associated with ASD such as, OCD, ADHD and Depression. Please come along to our group to share your experiences with others and receive sup-port from parents who have been there.
